Ahui,
Have you thought of packing your valued pieces in Ice Chests or Coolers? At
garage sales you can get large coolers cheap. If you are really concerned,
then you could add regular ice to them (plastic Lego should dry off pretty
easily.) Coolers are equally good at keeping heat out, as keeping cool in.
When you are transporting the boxes/coolers, put a sheet over them in the
car. Anything to block the direct sunlight through the windows will help.
Also remember lots of airflow (even as simple as opening the car's a/c
external vents overnight).
I don't know the amounts you are talking about. But bringing in a few of the
more-prized boxes/coolers overnight will also help - cooling them off using
the hotel a/c. Remember to open them up when you are 'cooling' them.
As for what temps they can handle. I would think of them like old LP
records. Those would warp at very low temps. Also when you get to your
destination, don't move the really hot Lego into a really cold
pre-air-conditioned room, put them in a garage or other neutral place first.
The shock of hot-to-cold might not be good for them.
Good luck with the move,
Clark
