Question about copyright on Lego logos —James Wilson
First off, let me get this clear: I do not intend to sell my creation. What I want to do is take a Lego logo from a set (I'm being intentionally evasive here...), such as the Blacktron logo, and duplicate it as best I can. Then I want to put it on a (...)      (...) Probably the only way to get a definitive answer is to ask LEGO directly. They have lots'o'lawyers who can help you. :-) Jude (23 years ago, 11-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: Question about copyright on Lego logos —Mike Petrucelli
I am not a laywer, but I do know that Copyright protection does not exsist for logos. Logos are protected under Trademark laws. That makes it a bit more sticky. There is no clear yes or no as with Copyright protection. If people do not associate a (...) (23 years ago, 12-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: Question about copyright on Lego logos —James Wilson
Mark, Thanks for the clarification -- Trademark was probably what I was thinking. My guess is that as long as I don't mass-produce it, I'm probably ok. If I make it available to others, it will be on an "ask me" basis, so I can say I did it for my (...) (23 years ago, 12-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: Question about copyright on Lego logos —Mark Neumann
Hmmm, you know what'd I'd do. Make the shirts, give them to your kids. I don't think anyone is going to care. Unless you mass produce them and sell them, then Lego will care. (and since you said you're not going to do that, you're good.) But until (...) (23 years ago, 12-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: Question about copyright on Lego logos —James Wilson
Mark, Thanks for the thoughts. The more I think about it, the more I think it's probably not a good idea to post the graphics on Brickshelf for someone to download, print onto T-shirt transfer paper, and make their own shirt. Probably too close to (...) (23 years ago, 12-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) Free is good, it also makes it easier for fans to spread it... (...) I got a packet of Avery T-shirt transfers myself, haven't tried them yet, but I got them. If I try any soon I'll let you know how it goes. Mark Neumann (23 years ago, 13-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)
