[...breaking back into the thread where I think my dot will look the prettiest!]
I just want to give one example of the kinds of elements I was referring to:
reference the big picture of LOM set #7317 and take a gander at those purple
(single piece?) arches, these are also being used in the SW set #7201 for
2002 except that they will be available in black in that set. Now, I admit
that I don't hate this part (esp. in black), but I have complaints about the
fact that it doesn't readily appear to have multiple uses to me, nor do it's
lines appear to correspond readily to other system bricks. Looking at this
arch element makes me think they could have built it from ribbed 1x1s (a new
element I'd like to see), some inverted slopes, and a couple of stacked
plates, or a single brick across the top.
I doubt that I will hate this element, just like I do not hate all of the
cockpits pointed out by Schuler, but I may be hard put to find good,
interesting uses for it.
I could take this line of reasoning much further with the curved elements
from Jack Stoned, Bionickles, and Racers that have infected the Alpha Team
sets for 2002, but I am lazy. Here is my problem: I REALLY liked the Alpha
Team subtheme, despite it's previous juniorization. But jeez -- look at
those sets for 2002! I think Jack, Stoned, was late at the office and
Znapped these together when no one was looking. Now the Alpha Team line is
part of an obvious attempt to bring these elements into the collections of
the average builder. I guess TLC has to do something with all of the unique
elements from failed product lines -- but couldn't they just give them away?
If some of you can be so vehement about resisting clone bricks, why aren't
you as concerned about these pieces of plastic junk? I mean, at least clone
bricks are largely modular and multiple-purpose.
It's all getting so un-lego-like anyway...
