a most slendid 4x4 —Allan Portillo
I built this modle and I want to know what you think of it. It has 4 wheel drive, steering, live axles, a center differential, 2 inches of suspention travel, is fully motorised and has a 5 forward/1 revearse transmission of my own design ( the one (...)         Re: a most slendid 4x4 —Martin Scragg
(...) I saw this on Brickshelf earlier today and thought it looked pretty good. It's nice to see a working 4x4. Well done. Any dats or description of the drive/gearbox? Martin X-posted to lugnet.technic (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)

Re: a most slendid 4x4 —Allan Portillo
(...) The secret to a srong gearbox is to get all the gears completely in mesh with each other, not so the gears only just touch ( as seen in the gear boxes of the 8880 and the 8448 ). I no longer have the model assembled and I don't have any (...) (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)

Re: a most slendid 4x4 —Allan Portillo
(...) The steering was not impresive. It had a tunring circle of 1.62 meters. The worm gears in the axles meant that I could use fewer gears in gearing it down. This decreased the amount of play in the complete transmission and so starts climbing as (...) (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)

Re: a most splendid 4x4 —Steve Lane
(...) I'd be interested in an l.s.d if it could be packaged small enough. Did you use worm gears on the axles as part of a telescopic drive shaft system? (...) But can you do it without the transmisson exploding? :-) Actually your figures sound (...) (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)

Re: a most splendid 4x4 —Allan Portillo
(...) Yes. The drive axles can move freely through the worm gear and the housing. (...) I can try. I'm more concerned that the axles might twist and break Allan (23 years ago, 25-Oct-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)

         Re: a most splendid 4x4 —Thomas (T. J.) Avery
(...) I might be wrong, but if your incline is at 63 degrees, then the component of force (force being the weight of your model) along the inclined surface is = 4.5*sin(63) = 4.0 kg. That is the force, or pull, your model is generating in a (...) (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)

Re: a most splendid 4x4 —Allan Portillo
(...) You should have saw the weird looks I got when I was walking down the street with it. I spotted a women in a bus shelter with a dog next to her sleeping. So what did I go and do. I drove over the dog, boy did it jump (smirk)8-). This top speed (...) (23 years ago, 25-Oct-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)

Re: a most slendid 4x4 —Jason King
Very nice model, Well done.. You wouldn't happen to have been involved in Radio Control Cars would you. Because the way you have done the suspension on your 4x4 is very similar to a "Clodbuster" RC Monster Truck. The fact the the suspension isn't (...) (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: a most slendid 4x4 —Allan Portillo
(...) No, I am not really into RC cars. I would like to be but my cash flow is limited. The live axle design for this modle came from real life monster trucks which also have the same mechanism. I hape this helps. (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: a most slendid 4x4 —David Wertz
Nice model - quite impressive. Good in both form and function. Hopefully I will get around to working on something along these lines soon. David (URL) (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: a most slendid 4x4 —Allan Portillo
(...) BTW If anyone is wondering how I got 4 powerpuller wheels ( without having to buy 8466 ) I ordered them directly from lego for about £12. I don't know if they still do that or if the 8466s tyres has that funky "technic power" graphics on them (...) (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: a most slendid 4x4 —David Wertz
Thanks. I was not aware that one could order those wheels seperately. I have never seen them advertised as such through Lego. I am planning on picking up an 8466 at some point, so I guess I will have six then. By the way, how many technic motors do (...) (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)

Re: a most slendid 4x4 —Allan Portillo
(...) As I said before, I am not sure if they still do this. You won't find them on shop at home as they are not there. You have to specifically ask if they have some for sale. If they do then you have to send them a cheque or postal order or (...) (23 years ago, 24-Oct-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)

Re: a most slendid 4x4 —Allan Portillo
How many of you are interested in seeing this modle in the new "my own creations" line. I have never seen a modle that was officially released from lego using two motors to power one function, but it runs fine on just one anyway. If it were to be (...)
