This rumour has been repeated many times on LUGNET and RTL, but I
can't remember that I have seen an actual confirmation of it.  Do you

I think the Life On Mars series pretty much shows that there is no
such thing as a "no space sets policy".  I can hardly see how the Life
On Mars series is _not_ space, with spacemen and space crafts and what
have you!

The way I heard it - from a friend who worked at LEGO Futura on several of
the Star Wars models:  The license with Lucas specifies 'no flying
spaceships' - or words to that effect.

So the 'Life on Mars' sets are ok, since they are strictly 'ground' vehicles.

And I believe my friend said the agreement was for six years - right up
through 'Episode III'...

(...) I realize that most vehicles in the LoM-series are ground vehicles, but there is the 7315 Solar Explorer, which is clearly a flying space ship.
