James, I agree with you 100% about the black windows looking good with black roof
(and white bricks). I was fortunate enought to find 2 small classic 1x2x2 windows
in Germany (as well as one rarer 1x1x2 tall thin window). And I have always been
fascinated by black windows. The 1x4x3 is rare, I think I only have about 10 of
these, 6 with black frames.
Since I have an extensive collection of classic Lego windows (predominately
red/white), there were always a few I received at auction that were quite
discolored, and not useful for building. A few years ago I purchased some black
hobby spray paint (matching identically the black of these rare windows). And I
commited a real heresy, I spray painted the discolored classic windows/doors with
this black paint. The results are such that I cannot distinguish an original 1x2x2
window from one of these newly painted ones. I want to build a classic scale LEGO
building with these black windows and show the photos to AFOL's (and LD) what can be
accomplished if only we had the parts and the colors we want. I have all 10
different classic windows/doors that have been painted like this, and am going to
build a 5 story building with them. I will use a low sloped black roof, including
the scarce black 3x3 convex corners. I will concentrate all of my "faux" windows in
this one building.
Black windows rule!!!

P.S. It's about time someone fixed the spelling on the Subject line!!!
