First, and then I set them up so they can watch the rest of the construction.

Of course!

No regular pattern. Sometimes all one item then the other,
sometimes mixed. I drink when I get thirsty or the food is too dry.
Sometimes sips, sometimes most at the end.
(Wine is always in sips, though.)
