    an old strange plate 8x4 —Domenico Franco
   I discovered in my LEGO collection a very strange plate: a plate withuot tubes!! I know the first LEGO plate was made in 1962 when the stud-and-tube system was already used, so the question is: why is this plate wihout tubes? view plate pics at: (...)      Domenico, The first plates were available long before 1962. Here is a catalog scan from Horst Lehner's site from 1957 that shows the plate that you have. There is a short LEGO piece history and on page 15 is clearly written :1962-first 1/3 element, evidently there is a mistake ;-) Thanks once again for having answered my (...)      I vaguely remember Bill Katz (a LUGNET user who has not been around lately - due to a heavy workload) mentioning the existence of a gray plate with the waffle bottom. I think he said there was an airplane set that this came from (Samsonite only?), (...) (24 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.general)

     I forgot to mention that the (1963-65) 8x11 gray Cellulose Acetate plate from the Architectural series parts pack had the tube bottom, and not the waffle bottom. - Gary Istok (...) (24 years ago, 7-Sep-00, to lugnet.general)
   
        Four colours of 4 x 8 CA plates —Clark Stephens
   Gary, Add two more colours to the CA plate inventory. That makes plates in white, light grey, black & red. The ones I have are all 4 x 8 with waffle bottoms, probably CA. (URL) black one didn't show its waffle very well. The two new colors came in a (...) (24 years ago, 1-Oct-00, to lugnet.general)
