Help Me......

I come home from work at night, usually have some dinner and then log on to
lugnet to see whats happening. I read all the different postings and sit back
and smile, oft times calling my girlfriend in to see something amusing or to
read about someone who has created an entire race of wizards (yeah you know
who you are, great stuff all of you by the way) and herein lies the reason for
my cry of help. Brace yourselves my good ladies and gentlemen, for I fear I
have no imagination. Can anyone help me to recapture that elusive childhood
freedom of the mind??? It scares me, truly it does.........I can remember when
it would rain on the weekend and I would do nothing but sit for hours creating
wondrous vehicles, naming my mini-figs and basically setting the scene for
epic struggles of good and evil.........but now there is nothing.......I buy
sets that I like, build them, leave them together for a few days and pull them
apart........and thats it.......so please people of lugnet......open your
flood gates of creativity and save me......

Yours truly in his hour of need,
Richard E. Schuit

Hm...well, for starters, what kinds of books do you like to read, and what kind of TV shows do you like? For instance, Tolkien is my favourite author, and I enjoy sci-fi shows and movies the best, so these are always inspiring me for my own space (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)

Create only you can....others have no access to your mind. A book you should read. A movie you should watch. Things of this nature will you find may help. -T (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Probably not, but I can tell you what I do. First thing, I put all my LEGO in front of me (and around me, and behind me) in easy reach. Then I think about what I want to build. For me, as a trainhead, I've got a lot of options ready-made. (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Heh. I suspect this is something everyone runs across from time to time. A couple of the things I'll do when the creative juices aren't flowing might help.... 1: Have a pile of unsorted Lego. I find that a couple ice cream buckets is a good (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)

Probably the post source for inspiration is your library. If you like making buildings, get out a book on Frank Lloyd Wright (or your favorite architectural style) preferably with floorplans/blueprints. If you like vehicles, get out a book on cars (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)

Good question and good luck! I like idea books. I have just about all of them, but even if you don't have them, you can find the scans on the web. As a kid, I always marveled at idea books, but complained that I didn't have the necessary pieces - (...) (25 years ago, 10-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)

Well, when I'm stuck, sometimes I pull out instructions for a couple of medium-size sets (from the same theme, though I guess they wouldn't have to be), build them (just to get in the mood for building), then tear them apart and see what else I can (...) (25 years ago, 11-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) I find that when creativity stoppers up, it's not a matter of lack. The "stoppered up" part is the key. The more you can "unlearn", and the more you can get rid of the "shoulds" that we tend to rack up, the more you can return to a child's (...) (25 years ago, 1-Feb-00, to lugnet.general)

Hi Richard, First of all let me assure you that you're not alone. I've had a MAJOR building block (as this lack of temporary ideas and imagination is often referred to) ever since September `99. This is when I moved to the US and suddenly I could (...) (25 years ago, 1-Feb-00, to lugnet.general)
