Part variation noted

Thinking about the door frame from 6195 made me think again about a part
variation I noted the other day while I was sorting out 20 copies of
6444 Outback Airstrip.

While sorting, I always put together all the pieces of any windows and
doors. 6444 has a white town window frame with 2 green lattice inserts.
As I was inserting these, I noticed that not all the frames were the
same. When I examined what was different, I noticed that the little
ridge on the inside of the frame which keeps the inserts from swinging
all the way through was on the top of the frame on some windows, and the
bottom on other windows.

I assume that this variation is possible because the LEGO molds are
multipiece, and that the parts which form this ridge can be inserted
either up or down.

It seems fairly random. I had 7 windows with the ridge one way and 13
the other way.

I noticed the other day on some several of the town mailbox piece that some had 4 normal studs on top while some of them had 4 hollow studs. Has this ever been noticed before? -Chris (25 years ago, 30-Nov-99, to lugnet.general)

I don't exactly know what year they did it (1989 perhaps?), but the classic minifig heads are no longer a solid stud on top, but instead open with a "Y" on the inside. -Jeremy. (25 years ago, 2-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)
