  2003 Catalog gushings

Hey all, Just picked up two copies of # 4098 High Flyers and the parts are awesome. These sets also contained a 2003 catalog. Lots of famliar images, but the pictures give a much better look at some of the awesome parts and colors we'll be getting. (...) (22 years ago, 14-Apr-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Quantifying and Classifying the LEGO Community

(...) I'm glad you started this Tim, I'm really enjoying this discussion. ... (...) It was my assumption that if there's a "Community Development Manager" then LEGO Direct, at least, has an interest in the identifying and reaching the LEGO Community (...)   Re: Quantifying and Classifying the LEGO Community

(...) This seems to say that Lugnet is old. In my mind, Lugnet is still one of the more recent LEGO communities. When alt.toys.lego (which came years before rec.toys.lego) became a Usenet newsgroup, it certainly met your definition of a community. (...)   Re: Quantifying and Classifying the LEGO Community

(...) :-) Glad you enjoy the discussion. Thanks for contributing to it - I think it's a good thing to keep going a little bit. I could have just emailed a few friends my original, but then thought, why not post to everyone? Especially when I know (...)   Re: Quantifying and Classifying the LEGO Community

WOW - Great discussion. I just happened to stumble across this discussion and I couldn't resist throwing my ideas into the pot. When talking about any "community" I think it's important to remember that any community can be defined in different (...)   Re: GI Joe Lego!

(...) Sorry for replying to myself, but here's a link: (URL) know that purists will balk, but I'm intrigued nonetheless. If I manage to find these sets locally, would a review be out of place in .general or .military? Dave! (22 years ago, 14-Apr-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Quantifying and Classifying the LEGO Community

(...) Alright! Getting some discussion going! (I can talk about this stuff for days!) (...) But not everyone *is* part of a community right? Take a local town/community for instance. To be part of that community, you have to actually live in that (...) (22 years ago, 14-Apr-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people, lugnet.fun.community)

Re: Quantifying and Classifying the LEGO Community

(...) Jake, The problem with your definition is that, superficially anyway, it comes very close to excluding people like me. Since coming out of my dark ages almost 3 years ago I have been one of your employer’s best supporters (trying the (...)   Re: High praise for Designer Set #4100

(...) And a good one. All I can say is, I agree. I've seen Mindstorms books in brick and mortar stores, why not an Idea Book of some kind? If not the Designer Sets book, then a more generalized one? I realize the Mindstorms books aren't LEGO company (...) (22 years ago, 13-Apr-03, to lugnet.general)

My First Robot - or - Having fun with Designer Set #4097

Just a bit of fun from this afternoon...   Re: High praise for Designer Set #4100

(...) (idea book) (...) Indeed. Here's an idea about idea books. What if TLC went with an alternate distribution channel? We know that sets seem to have shorter and shorter lifespans on store shelves these days what with faster rotation and so (...) (22 years ago, 13-Apr-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Which set has 12- and 20 tooth double bevel gears?

(...) The 8448 Supercar, 8466 4x4, and the 8457 Power Puller. I think they all have two of each, the Power Puller may have more.   Re: High praise for Designer Set #4100

(...) I would agree, though I would characterize it just *slightly* differently. I would say that these sets draw from the roots of LEGO, but that they are more fully formed branches... off the same tree. In my original post I suggested that the new (...)   Re: High praise for Designer Set #4100

(...) Hmmm...interesting. I have yet to see these sets in the flesh/ABS so my next comment is more speculative than yours from experience. The database shows a price of $20 USD for 290 pcs. and that is only around 0.07 cents (just under actually) an (...) (22 years ago, 13-Apr-03, to lugnet.general)

High praise for Designer Set #4100

In a recent thread on LUGNET, someone referred to 'evangelizing' about LEGO. This post may have some of that tone to it, though I suspect this is probably more like preaching to the choir. On Friday I was pleasantly surprised to find several of the (...) (22 years ago, 13-Apr-03, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.general) !
