I know every town/city has these kind of issues, but just wanted to know • if
this area is one of the more prone to trouble areas. For example here in • the
Metro Atlanta area I wouldn't dream of parking my car outside over night • in
downtown Atlanta, but in most of the outlying communities I wouldn't have
such an issue with it.

...Well, I don't know exact crime statistics, but it doesn't seem to be a
terribly bad area.

...I wouldn't park my car right out in the open on the street under a • burned out
light all night, but I also wouldn't go through all the trouble of getting • it
"locked up safe". I don't know of any problems anyone had with their • vehicles
last year.

...I drove a convertible VW Cabriolet last year, half the time I forgot to • lock
it, and didn't think twice about it... Course, if you are driving a • high-end BMW
or the like, you may want to be a bit more secure than others :-)

Although it has been a while since I lived in Northern Virginia, I still get
back from time to time as my parents live in Fairfax (near the main GMU
campus).  I would describe the area where Brickfest is being held as
reasonably safe.  I used to go down there each time I was in the DC area as
there is/was a great MG parts source by the name of Motorhead (they have
since moved out to Merrifield) to get parts for my car.

When my wife and I first started dating she lived by herself and walked
about a mile to the Ballston Metro ( a couple of stops further in towards
DC) stop everyday.  I took two courses (both at night) towards my
uncompleted MSCE at the GMU Arlington Campus and never felt unsafe walking
around in the evening.  I personally would not hesitate to walk around that
area by myself personal safety varies tremendously from person to person.

Unfortunately I will be in DC too soon (4th of July week) and getting back
for Brickfest doesn't look likely.  ;-(
