Although it has been a while since I lived in Northern Virginia, I still get
back from time to time as my parents live in Fairfax (near the main GMU
campus). I would describe the area where Brickfest is being held as
reasonably safe. I used to go down there each time I was in the DC area as
there is/was a great MG parts source by the name of Motorhead (they have
since moved out to Merrifield) to get parts for my car.
When my wife and I first started dating she lived by herself and walked
about a mile to the Ballston Metro ( a couple of stops further in towards
DC) stop everyday. I took two courses (both at night) towards my
uncompleted MSCE at the GMU Arlington Campus and never felt unsafe walking
around in the evening. I personally would not hesitate to walk around that
area by myself personal safety varies tremendously from person to person.
Unfortunately I will be in DC too soon (4th of July week) and getting back
for Brickfest doesn't look likely. ;-(
