All of the responses so far have focused on true white axles
(which are somewhat rare). There are also #5 axles with stop
which are much more common.
Then there are translucent "white" axles. These predated the
classic black axles and last appeared around ~1976. These
are extremely rare due to their age.

| They were used as masts in 314 and 315, two of the old ships-series. They were also used in the old Model-team: the Harley and the Norton (393 & 394) feature a few as axles, footrests and antenna. The Rolls Royce (395) uses one for its steering (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jan-01, to lugnet.db.inv, lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)
