I'm not terribly fond of the "Dear Lego Company" bit-- perhaps if it were
addressed to Jorgen Vig personally. But if it's addressing the company as a
whole, I'm not sure it even needs the "Dear company" bit.

Maybe it's just me, but I also don't really like the bit about it being written
in the first person. It's saying "I don't like" instead of saying "AFOLs don't
like" or "many AFOLs don't like". For whatever reason, I find it much more
powerful to say "this decision was disappointing" instead of "I was disappointed
by this decision", etc.

Again, I think I'd go with "The Lego Company" or "Lego" or "TLC". Saying "you"
seems... I dunno. Maybe it's the fact that it almost sounds like it's
associating a particular person (the addressee) with the action, which isn't
really true; it's the company. I dunno.

The parenthesis bit really isn't necessary. If it were to someone who wasn't
informed, they might be interested to know that, but otherwise, it's kind of
detracting from the point.

I'm not terribly sure I like this bit. The AFOL community is small potatoes. I
would focus on why the AFOL's don't like it and present those reasons as valid.
Saying it this way kinda sounds like "please do things for us" rather than
"please do things for the good of the Lego system".

All in all (although as I said in the initial thread I'm not sure I would want
to sign my name to the letter anyway) I'm not sure I'd want to sign this
letter-- it's written more as an individual request rather than a community
plea. For a personal letter (IE from one person), I think it's fine, but it just
seems ... I dunno, less communal somehow.
By comparison, check out Mark Chan's draft:
http://news.lugnet.com/color/?n=677
Although there are particulars I'd change about his version as well (I agree
with a couple of the comments he's received), the overall presentation of his
version is more what I'd expect to sign (if I were wanting to sign at all, that
is).

| Hey all, So I posted a second draft but got no responses, so I'm assuming that everyone (or the few people who read it) agree with and approve the text. I'll present it again below. I would like to print a copy, sign it and mail it this week, but (...) (20 years ago, 30-Nov-04, to lugnet.color)
