Hi everybody. :-) I thought it would be fun to have a mini-fig survey. I had
two different things in mind for this survey, so I used two different terms
to better express what I was asking. A “character” is a fig that you have
given a name, a background, or a personality. A fig is, well, a fig.

1. What is the first character you remember creating?

(timewarp about 20+ years ago) The earliest one I remember is a Gray Knight
called "Shade the Hunter".  Basically a Knight from the Knight's procession
set with a gray visored helm (extra from 375), blank gray shield (also an
extra from 375) and sword.

2. Of your current characters, which did you build first? Last?

First:
One-by (samurai archer featured on the webpage) was my first unique
character.  Emperor fig from 3053 with Islander hair and "Bandit boss"
minifig head.

Last:
Lord Toro-naga (warlord with a Bulls torso)

3. Do you have clear “good” and “bad” characters, or is it all relative?

Without saying too much about future plans...many characters have their own
agendas.  Sometimes the resulting behaviors can be viewed as "good" or
"evil".  I will say that all of my charcters have "fatal flaws"; whether
some are more virtuous than others is determined by the reader.

4. Have you ever built a MOC specifically for a pre-existing character?

Yes...I once built a "dragon ship" entierly out of bricks for a wizard
.(even the sail was made of bricks)

5. How many custom (non-standard assembly) castle figs do you have? How
many have some bit of a background, or a personality?

One of my goals has been to deviate as much as possible from standard out-of
box assembly.  I have tried to add some variety to my armies by integrating
heads from Adventurers Pirates, and Star Wars. Essentially, half of my Blue
samurai army is now "individualized" instead of having 200 clones.

I assume the differentiation between "individuals" and "characters" refers
to a personal history, "speaking role" in a story, or participation in a
major event.
I would have to say I have about 80-90 characters kicking around here.

6. Which Castle subtheme has the best figs?

Hard to say...Nowadays, I can "samur-ize" just about any figure I get my
hands on...

I will confess a weakness for the Knight's procession guys that were my
first Castle figs ever.  Overall, I guess I have a particular fondness for
the original Forestmen (they were the closest thing to common peasants or
knaves and they were just so cool at the time!  Green torsos+legs, pointy
caps in 2 colors, lots of bows+quivers.)

7. Is there a type of fig you find easy to make? A type you find difficult?

Easiest:  Samurai warriors or Knights
Difficult: Commoners, peasants (although that has changed with the SW and
Ninja figs)

8. Have you ever bought a set just for the figs?

Most empahtically...YES!  Practically every duplicate copy of smaller Ninja
+ SW sets was bought for the figures.  Quite often when a new theme is
introduced, I will buy a "sample" set.  (I have bought Rock Raiders, Lego
Studio mini sets, a Soccer bus, and many X-treme team sets for the figs more
than the parts)

9. Which non-Castle theme is the best source of Castle compatible figs?

I imagine I will reflect the majority opinion by saying Star
Wars...Especially for Ninja theme.  The robed torsos, minifigure heads
(Qui-gonn, Luke, etc.) and colors are very useful for my Asian and
Middle-eastern figure designs.

10. Is making a background and/or personality for a fig something you find
simple, or challenging?

I didn't set-out to create characters.  I just put some pieces together and
the very act of assembly seems to inspire a story.  I suppose it is easy to
develop a personality or backround for all the figs I create.  The Challenge
is to integrate them cohesively into a larger plot or story.

If you think of some other questions, add them on.

I don't think I have anything pertinent to add...
