If all you're looking for is display/play, and not as a parts source - I would
suggest getting 5988 Pharaoh's Forbidden Ruins instead.  As a model, it's
nicer, has more stuff to do, and has recently been hitting the same kind of
discounting that 6097 has.

I've got several 6097's, but they're broken out for parts.

I'm gonna have to disagree with the "doesn't have a lot of interesting bits",
but that's mostly due to my definition of "interesting" and "a lot". I liked
the fact that it had: 2 sets of doors, dark grey wall sections, inverse red
slopes, the windows w/ lattice inserts, inverse 1x2x3 grey slopes (and regular
ones), huge "quality" green baseplates, the 1x4 arches, and there's probably
more, too that I'm forgetting...

As a set, 6097 is pretty ugly as a display item (I'd say), although the
interior actually looks pretty good... you just can't SEE that when it's on
display as easily.  As for play value, it's got 1 trap door, a bucket o' rocks
to drop on intruders, a jail cell, working portcullis (not on a spool, though,
think it's done via a chain), and a revolving door in the back. So it's got
some potential there, I guess... but I'd probably just recommend getting 6097
for parts...

But next to 5988 Pharaoh's Forbidden Ruins, 6097 is a pathetic whimper of a
set. To put it simply, 5988 is beautiful. Parts, looks, playability... it's got
it all... 2 trap doors, swinging axe, falling rocks, revolving door with a
magnetic jewel case, a whole slew of 'figs, two vehicles, etc, etc... and Toys
'R Us is selling 'em for $49.99 now, instead of the $79.99 they were before...
I'd say if you can pick one of those up, it's DEFINITELY worth the extra 10
bucks...

(...) Oh, I'll quite happily admit that there's lots of interesting *parts*...I've gotten lots of them for parts!!! It's just that as a model, there isn't much to do. James (URL) (25 years ago, 18-Nov-99, to lugnet.castle)
