I thought Id post my latest MOC, a Castle Gate, and a slightly older MOC, a
Castle Corner Tower, together. Theyre both the same system of building, so
if I had the bricks to have both constructed at once they would fit together
perfectly. (Thats the theory anyway)
If you prefer pics
Im interested on hearing feedback, good or bad. Especially any suggestions
people might have on how to improve my building skills.

I like it. Some elements---particularly the use of 2x2x3 slopes and the
windows---add a great deal of visual interest to what could otherwise be
boring walls. Unfortunately, they also make it prohibitivly expensive to
make a whole castle/town. . .
|
Thanks! It would indeed be too expensive to make a huge MOC with this design:
Both the grey 2x2x3 slopes and the grey 1x2 tiles are fairly expensive parts in
large quantities.
|
I would like to see the back of the wall.
|
Unfortunately there isnt anything to see: Its just filled in with light grey
bricks. In the back of the gate section there is the simple LEGO-style pin
system I used to keep the gate up or down, but nothing too pretty.
|
I think it would be cool to use one of the rare left-facing Falcon
torsos for this shot
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=937667
but then again, Im weird.
|
Could you elaborate on this left-facing Falcon torso? I dont believe Ive
heard of that before...it interests me greatly...

I question the use of brown for the parapets. Since the wall has no mural
gallery, I assume it is just stone and rubble the whole way up. Shouldnt
that mean that the parapets are just stone? Having used brown, however,
the back railing is a nice touch.
|
They should be stone, I suppose. I personally like brown better because it
brings more colour and interest into the model. Constant grey does get boring
after a while. Its all personal opinion!
|
On the towers, I would recommend arrow loops on the sides (by the wall).
The point of a projecting tower is to allow archers to sweep base of the
walls, but your defenders can only use the corner embrassures at the
tops of the towers for that purpose.
|
I considered adding more features in the walls like that, but decided against
it. I simply like the look it gives - simple, strong, yet with some
interesting parts. I didnt want it at all cluttered.
|
Im torn on the use of tiling on the crenellation. On the one hand, it
looks really good. On the other hand, since its not carried to the rest
of the stonework it doesnt quite fit. . .
|
May I ask what you mean not carried to the rest of the stonework? In my
opinion they went along with the cleanness of the walls. Im not sure I
understand what you meant.
Thanks again!
