  New helmet and Era.

Hello, I have heard a lot of people say that the new lego helmet is more 15th - 16th centu ry than earlier periods. The Helmets name escapes me for now, but it was used in the 13th century a lot as one of the main style of helms besides the norman (...) (25 years ago, 26-Dec-99, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: New helmet and Era.

(...) The Kettle hat, or Kettle helm, or Ketyl(l) hat/helm, or chapelle-de-fer originated around 1200 give or take a few years, as you note. No doubt there are further names for it, those are just the ones I'm familair with. They seem to have (...) (25 years ago, 26-Dec-99, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: New helmet and Era.

(...) Heck, I know people who still wear them. :) Of course, I'm weird and in the SCA, so that might account for it... James (URL) (25 years ago, 27-Dec-99, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: New helmet and Era.

(...) Not in combat, I hope! That wide dinnerplate of a helm would be both a wonderful mace-lander as well as a great funnel for catching rattan upper-cuts! Dave! (25 years ago, 27-Dec-99, to lugnet.castle)

(...) there (...) period (...) upper-cuts! Yup - in combat. It's used up here in An Tir as a light helm, so the afor-mentioned problems aren't. :) James (URL) (25 years ago, 27-Dec-99, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: New helmet and Era.

(...) Whew! Here in Athelmearc (spell it as you see fit!) I haven't yet seen them, but I've been out of the loop for awhile. I missed this past Pennsic because I was in the process of moving. Did you get there? How about last year? Dave! (25 years ago, 27-Dec-99, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: New helmet and Era.

(...) Nope, I haven't made a Pennsic yet... hopefully this year - it depends on how the holiday time works out. I was at Clinton this year, which is the biggest war I've been too - ~300 heavies on the field, I think. I think the reason the kettle (...) (25 years ago, 27-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: New helmet and Era.

(...) Then you're in for a real treat, if you can ever make it to Pennsic! A very conservative estimate puts the main field battle at about 2000 participants--very possibly upward of 3500 some years. It's probably the epitome of geekness, but (...) (25 years ago, 28-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: New helmet and Era.

(...) Yup! It's a rush like no other. How long have you/did you fight? (...) That's a lot of steel. And just in helmets - when you consider that most of the heavies out there also have steel knees, well... And I'm not even going to go into how many (...)   Re: New helmet and Era.

(...) I've been fighting on-and-off since 92, and I've been to 5 Pennsics in that time. In small melees I opt for greatsword (more like mediocre or slightly- above-average-sword), but in mass combat I fall back on sword & board. I would say of my (...)   Re: New helmet and Era.

(...) Only for about a year, but I haven't really embarrased myself (since the first war - ouch!). We've got a fairly solid local core of fighters, a couple of whom are *really* good, and (until I screwed up my knee) I was attending a weekly (...) (25 years ago, 28-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
