I've also encountered this problem a number of times . You stick a hording
on one side and the entire thing looks wonky.
I think they really need to be butted into a corner to work, and seeing as
most of my castles end up being square, there is never an external corner to
put one :)

I've got some nice photos of the hordings on Caerphilly Castle I can put on
my site if people are interested

Well, the hoardings are done. They can be seen here:

Very nice Mark! I haven't seen anyone else do hoardings before, and was
about to ask if anyone had done them. I think we must think very alike!

I was toying around with some hoarding designs over the weekend, trying to
come up with a nice looking design. I think the main problem is that the
hoardings themselves need to be at least 5 or 6 bricks high, so a minifig
can stand in them, but unless you have enough bricks to make the actual • wall
very high (mine was 13 bricks high, including battlements), the hoardings
will look unnaturally big, compared to the walls. In my experience it is
easier and more parts economical to do machicolations, but I do quite like
the rather improvised "rough and ready" look to wooden hoardings, and • since
I now have two Fort Legoredos, I think I have enough brown log bricks to • put
hoardings on a significant section of the curtain wall of my castle.
