Here's my latest creation, a Viking Longship with a mechanism that's used to
make the oars row.  It's also manned by ninja figs.  Congratulations to the
castleheads, another mostly spacehead has made the transition, at least
temporarily :)

Check it out, it's under the new castle heading of my web page.

Just want to point out that the classic "flared" and "bullet" helms are Norman
helms with chain coifs, and the Normans were what the Anglo-Saxons called the
Viking conquerors.  :)  So you *can* make Vikings.  :)

Not exactly.  The two terms are not really interchangeable; they
were separated by a few hundred miles and several centuries.
The Viking "conquerors" in England were called Danes (thus the term
"Danelaw"); "Normans" was really reserved for those who settled
in what is today Normandy.  They only became "conquerors" in England
in 1066,  but by then they were about as un-Viking as Vikings could
get. (As for the Vikings = Danes, they only became Danes when they
took territory--they were Vikings when they were raiding and
plundering.  When is a door not a door...?)

So Normans refers to those who settled in northern France, or who
came to England via northern France.  The helms, as Jeff points out,
are of that make (though the vintage is probably later than 1066).
Either you didn't conquer in England, or you weren't Viking when
you did, in order to be Norman.

Um, that geekly interjection made, that's one heck of an excellent
longboat, Adrian!  Nice curvature on the ends, and the banks of oars
and shields really look perfect.  I feel badly for the poor guy up
   in the lookout, though...;)

   hair-splittingly,

   LFB

(...) I could've put the bullet helmet on these guys to make it more realistic, but since I didn't have 34 of them, I figured I'd go with what I had :) (...) Think I should've built him a crow's nest? Yeah, probably, but the guy knows how to hang on (...) (23 years ago, 4-Aug-01, to lugnet.castle, lugnet.castle.ninja)
