Well, assuming it's left in some bitmap format, I could update LDView to use
a texture map to draw the image.  However, adding bitmaps to a .DAT file in
some ASCII format is going to make for some really big .DAT files.
Alternatively, of course, it could just reference an external binary
graphics file.

One other problem that comes to mind is that I would have trouble drawing it
if it isn't attached to some quad.  I don't know how you handle the drawing
in MLCad, but most 3D programs (LDView included) can't deal with co-planar
polygons.  I can almost guarantee that L3P would have the same problem (read
Lars' in-depth explanation of the Seam Width option).

Hi, i'm currently using MLCad alot and it's great.

However latelty i've been wanting to do some complex patterns and BMP2DAT
doesn't quite do it for me (96 dpi doesn't give me enough resolution to • play
with). What i think would be a great feature is the ability to import a
graphic file so that it can be used as an overlay during the creation of
sticker style pieces. You could overlay it and change it's rotation and • so on.

This might also allow some of us to do more of the decroated pieces, and • even
our own decorated pieces.

Thanks

Jamie

I could provide a MLCad specific bitmap element very quickly. This element
could be sized, moved and rotated. Internaly MLCad would handle this • element
like a normal quad.
The disadvantage of this would be that no other program would be able to
understand this command unless someone would implement that into other
programs as well. However LDraw/LEdit would never be able to understand • that
command.

The other possibility is that MLCad creates something out of the picture • ..
e.g. a series of quads ..

HOW ARE SUCH PICTURES DONE CURRENTLY? With BMP2DAT?

I will think about that for one of the future versions of MLCad. The next
release however will not have it.

Michael

I was just thinking on offering something similar to bmp2dat. The other thing always is that it should be compatible to Ldraw and than you have to convert the bmp to something which LDraw can use too. Michael Travis Cobbs <tcobbs@san.REMOVE.rr.com> (...)
