If your machine is behind a firewall, it is very likely that
you are using a proxy without knowing it. It is not uncommon
to put a "transparent proxy", which intercepts HTTP
requests, in a firewall.

No, definitely no proxy. I'm the admin for our firewall and internet
connections and we don't have a proxy. Our firewall uses NAT and does not
appear on tracert results, the 1st IP on the results was my router which is
connected to my fractional T1 line. Taking the firewall into consideration
gives 33 hops to www.ldraw.org.

Here is the tracert (run via CyberKit on my Windows NT PC).

As you can see there are 32 hops from my router (gateway.helio.co.uk) to
www.ldraw.org (sys-323.risoe.dk). However I have no problems getting to the
site. Maybe it's something to do with slow packets through the initial
routers from Frank's machine, or a routing problem towards his end.
