Re: Call for Nominations to LDraw.org Steering Committee

(...) After careful consideration of this offer, I Andrew Allan accept the nomination (22 years ago, 13-Apr-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac, lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)

Re: Call for Nominations to LDraw.org Steering Committee

(...) I, James Reynolds, second this nomination. James (22 years ago, 9-Apr-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac, lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)

Re: Call for Nominations to LDraw.org Steering Committee

Larry pointed out a spelling error in my last attempt at this nomination so I'll try again. Also, I'm cross posting to the Mac subgroup so maybe this'll be seen by the interested parties. Anyhow... I Don Heyse nominate Andrew Allan. (22 years ago, 9-Apr-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw, lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

Re: Mac Brick CAD 2.2b1 New Release

(...) Two quick things spring to mind... One is adding on the Deletion of objects for Powerbook users, right now we need to keep the Fn-key pressed down in order to be able to delete a selected piece. Perhaps you could map the Backspace key as well (...) (22 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac, FTX)

Re: Mac Brick CAD 2.2b1 New Release

Great stuff Jim, where possible I'll answer interspersed with your comments (...) I've noticed this too on some bricks. It has to do with the fact that some parts use negative scaling when drawing some primitives. Both OpenGL and LDRAW can handle (...) (22 years ago, 30-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac, FTX)

Re: Mac Brick CAD 2.2b1 New Release

Hi Andrew, I've been occupied lately but I was finally able to test drive 2.2b1 for many hours this past week. So, weighing in again... I'm absolutely enjoying MBC!... most especially now that I understand what you were saying about moving the field (...) (22 years ago, 30-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac, FTX)

  Re: lugnet.cad.dev (2004.03.03.1000) #9551 (1 article)

(...) Well, there is Mac OS 8-9 and Mac OS X. Mac OS 8-9: The search path for the ini/pref file is: /System Folder/Preferences There is no where else it should be saved. Andrew can tell you what the format is (I don't think it is xml/plist). Mac OS (...) (22 years ago, 3-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac, lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: LDRAWPREDIRS LDRAWPOSTDIRS - additional search paths

Where to store the preferences? While I've been aware of this thread, I haven't actually been following it, so correct me if I've got the wrong end of the stick. (...) MacOS 9 and earlier is a single user environment and it was easy to place (and (...) (22 years ago, 1-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

Re: Mac Brick CAD 2.2b1 New Release

(...) Many thanks for yet another update on MBC! Can I vote for yet another key mapping...? You've added the Delete key for deleting selected pieces, can you please also map the Backspace key to the same function, so that Powerbook users won't have (...)   Re: LDRAWPREDIRS LDRAWPOSTDIRS - additional search paths

(...) Oh. I didn't know it was as easy as: ~/MacOSX/environment.plist I guess that is one route. In Cocoa, which is what Andrew and I are both developing in now, it is really easy to grab prefs that have a unique name for the application. It isn't (...)   Re: LDRAWPREDIRS LDRAWPOSTDIRS - additional search paths

(...) Actually Environment variables work pretty well on OS X because they've set up a standard place to put them, and it's one of those plist files. See here for details. (URL) would be nice though to have a standard fallback location for the (...) (22 years ago, 1-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac, lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: LDRAWPREDIRS LDRAWPOSTDIRS - additional search paths

One other thing. Environment variables work too, but only serious Unixy Mac OS X people actually modify them--that is, some developers, but no one else. Normal users would even know what they are. Heck, even I don't modify mine. For my l3p and (...) (22 years ago, 1-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac, lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: LDRAWPREDIRS LDRAWPOSTDIRS - additional search paths

(...) /etc would work, except it would require admin permission to install, which is something the Mac OS X community doesn't like for an installer/app that isn't a system modifying type of installer/app. Saving stuff in /etc/ will also not survive (...)   Re: LDRAWPREDIRS LDRAWPOSTDIRS - additional search paths

(...) Oops, I forgot to add this. These sort of restrictions mean a user may be forced to put extra search directories in their home directory. Rather than recognize $HOME or %USERPROFILE% in an absolute path, it might be nice to add a <HOME> (...) (22 years ago, 1-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

Re: LDRAWPREDIRS LDRAWPOSTDIRS - additional search paths

(...) I'm only willing to abandon environment variables if you're willing to go the distance and really try to work out a standard that we all can use. I, like Lars, was quite disappointed when you got impatient and cut short the previous discussion (...) (22 years ago, 1-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

Mac Brick CAD 2.2b1 New Release

After the level of input from the previous release, I've managed to update MBC again to version 2.2b1 This release fixes a couple of major memory bugs and also mainly adds some of the features that have been requested recently (and before) It is now (...)   Re: Mac Brick CAD 2.1b1 New Release

(...) I am thinking of updating L3P Launcher so that it integrates more completely with POV-Ray. I'll add a POV-Ray window that allows you to set basic POV-Ray settings (like size, file format, etc). After the image renders, L3P Launcher will even (...) (22 years ago, 29-Feb-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

Re: Mac Brick CAD 2.1b1 New Release

(...) OK, that sounds fair. I believe it would be a good idea for MBC to report when a file (or files) are missing. A single list of all missing files would be much better than a dialog per file. As I found out, there does not appear to be any error (...) (22 years ago, 28-Feb-04, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac, FTX)

Jim, Some great feedback, keep it comming. Rather than tackle uour suggestions, one by one, I've kept them and you will find many incorporated in future releases.
