Re: Technic Axles - go rounded? —Steve Bliss
(...) Yes, having new axle primitives would make the process go much easier. Perhaps the axle.dat file could be separated into two files: one with the end-lines, and the other with everything else. the "everything else" file would be one of the (...)         Re: Technic Axles - go rounded? —Jeff Boen
(...) i disagree.. i say go for it... create the end caps (i thought about doing this myself when the crankshaft discussion came up) and let's have a primitive axle cross section without end faces... then i say we integrate the primitive+end caps (...)         Re: Technic Axles - go rounded? —Fredrik Glöckner
(...) Are you sure about this? I mean, I don't doubt that the length of the axles is LDraw is a bit to large, but doesn't this apply to nearly all parts? Surely a 1x1 brick is smaller than 20LDUx20LDU in real life, to leave some gap between the (...) (25 years ago, 9-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Technic Axles - go rounded? —Steve Bliss
(...) The axles are shorter than bricks. Comparing the 2L axle to a 2x brick, the axle comes up about 1.5 LDU short. I haven't checked the other axles, for now I'm guessing they are also 1.5LDU short. (...) I posted one a few days ago. It was the (...) (25 years ago, 9-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Technic Axles - go rounded? —Bram Lambrecht
(...) Won't changing the length change the ease of modeling? Currently, you can line parts up (such as connectors or bushings) to the end of the axle because when lined up corectly, they share a common plane. If you make the axles shorter, this (...)         Re: Technic Axles - go rounded? —Karim Nassar
(...) I've actually run into a problem once with the axle being too long. I was trying to model a craft that I built, and I ended up fudging the virtual model by pushing the axle into the motor, because otherwise it popped through the radar dish on (...)         Re: Technic Axles - go rounded? —Steve Bliss
(...) Besides what Karim said, Fredrik (was it you, Fredrik?) reported a similar problem with a technic piece which was designed to fit closely with axles, and depended on the rounded edges on the ends. As long as the centers of the axles are (...) (25 years ago, 10-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Technic Axles - go rounded? —Fredrik Glöckner
(...) Yup. The 2853.DAT Technic Crankshaft can be made more realistically if the axles are shortened/given a rounded end. Otherwise the axle end and the surface of the 2853 becomes coincident, which gives some problems, obviously. Of we are to (...) (25 years ago, 11-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)
