  Re: LDraw CD-ROM Project

(...) $100 to ship 650 cds (even with pouches) sounds high. I ordered 500 blank CDs with jewel cases that I guarantee weighed more and took up just as much room as 650 with cardboard pouches and shipping was in the thirties. (25 years ago, 5-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: LDraw CD-ROM Project

(...) And DEFINITELY nix the full-color pouch or whatever it was. Full color anything is too expensive for something like this. Let the programs and the dat files wow people - don't depend on a few pretty pictures on a pouch they'll probably throw (...) (25 years ago, 5-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: LDraw CD-ROM Project

(...) Well, that's a good question. There isn't much of anything that better determines who will buy it than asking people to pay for it up front, which is what I was suggesting be done with an X account. That way you don't have checks to worry (...) (25 years ago, 5-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: LDraw CD-ROM Project

How about have a submission for the CD to include models (sample models). BTW I like the idea. It would keep that LDraw folder with all the junk down! The only problem is when software is updated. -- Legoer, Adam Ogle Tim Courtney <tim@zacktron.com> (...) (25 years ago, 5-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: ldglite (ldlite for OpenGL and Linux) new stuff

(...) And earlier programs. BriCAD, L3G0, Ben's (?) POV library, VBLOCKs (an SGI GL program) and I think LegoPS (postscript) used different coordinates & units. Or at least they were all different from L3G0. (...) L3G0 call a brick a "b2x4"; BriCAD (...) (25 years ago, 5-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: LDraw CD-ROM Project

(...) How do you suggest going about determining how many people will buy the CD? BTW - the Jessiman family requested 50 copies already at cost. :) (...) Another good idea I didn't think of. Me also being banking/finance illiterate, would this go (...) (25 years ago, 4-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: L-CAD Parts Messages (was: Suggestion for ML-CAD Plug-Ins)

(...) Nah. The only VB concern is if outgoing messages will be translated down to single-byte codes from the VB default double-byte. But if it doesn't happen automatically, the data can be filtered through a byte array first. Steve (25 years ago, 4-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.cad.mlcad)

Re: ldglite (ldlite for OpenGL and Linux) new stuff

Paul: [ Tells us that we are behaving a little bit silly. ] You are probably right, but... I think that the main problem is that practically none of us are experienced CAD developers or users. Some of Paul's points: - Different coordinate systems I (...) (25 years ago, 4-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: L-Draw - Future is the Net?

People who find it slow could download a distribution to a local directory. LDRAW tools should have a search path that the user can edit, so local directories could be looked at first. Good point about testing. Mounting a drive (using whatever (...) (25 years ago, 4-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: LDraw CD-ROM Project

(...) Which is why I suggested it. Look, my point is just this: before 1800 is shelled out, make sure that you have some reasonable expectation of recovering all or most of it. I'll gladly put up a hundred bucks to make this happen, with no (...) (25 years ago, 4-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Colors for pneumatic cylinder (was Re: Looking for broken pneumatics)

(...) Since they are available with various colors for the cap, it's even more important to do a separate file for each component. But the leaf-files are *parts*, not *sub-parts*. Probably with a tilde on the front of the part-title. Steve (25 years ago, 4-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Reading Part-Lists (was: Suggestion for MLCad Plug-Ins)

  Re: LDraw CD-ROM Project

(...) As I'm sure a lot of people would do. I don't think we'll charge near that much for the CD, beacuse the goal isn't profit and I told the Jessimans' that we wouldn't collect on it. But I think donations will be accepted to cover up- front cost. (...) (25 years ago, 4-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: LDraw CD-ROM Project

  Re: LDraw CD-ROM Project

(...) I'd gladly pay 10$ or 20$ for a suite with LDraw and related software, if it is on a pressed CD. I would also pay beforehand if that is what it takes to ensure the project. Why not make a count of who's willing to buy such a CD? It is the (...) (25 years ago, 4-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)
