  Re: Soccer ball pattern

(...) Are you sure about that? Surely, in England they use the term "football", and I would guess that they use the same word in Australia. (...) Sorry, I didn't understand this sentence. (...) This doesn't convince me. Fredrik (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: parts i plan to do

(...) Excellent! --Todd (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Soccer ball name

(...) I don't know for sure if "soccer" is used in Australia or not, but in either case, isn't "soccer" guaranteed not to be ambiguous, unlike "football" or "fussball"? In Brasil, do you say "football" or "soccer"? If you don't say "soccer," what (...) (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Part Numbering Crisis in LDraw

(...) So _that's_ how you do it. I knew there had to be a better way. :) (...) Thanks, that makes sense to me. (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Part Numbering Crisis in LDraw

(...) I concur. Part of the beauty and flexibility of LDraw is that you can model with parts in colors that those parts don't come in. Once we start down the road of having parts hard coded only in the color(s) they really exist in, we limit our (...) (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Java LDraw/LDLite

[lugnet.cad removed from Newsgroups header] (...) Yes, it's fairly easy to write an HTTP daemon in Perl. Pre-forking and load balancing and shared memory for optimal usage is a little more difficult. But in either case, it's just a one-liner in the (...) (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Quality of authored parts

(...) Your output reflects this high standard. You are always willing to take criticism on your parts and try to improve them where needed. No one is offended, inspired, if anything. -John Van (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Part Numbering Crisis in LDraw

(...) Is it not possible to say in the definition of 410etc., like: top half yellow, lower half yellow underneath. That way, the only information in the 410etc file is the color, and which constituents parts there are. Then if anything needs to (...) (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Java LDraw/LDLite

(...) You can use FastCGI ((URL) to have one process (or a fixed group of processes) serving CGI requests so you don't have the overhead of restarting the process (interpreter or otherwise) for each request. I used it for the Lego set database I (...) (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Modeling without the real element -- bad

(...) Jonathan, I don't really want to get into the parts stuff, but could you possibly use proper capitalisation in your posts? Your posts are hard on the eyes, and that really isn't necessary. Thank you. Jasper (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Java LDraw/LDLite

(...) aren't FreeBSD and Linux nigh-on binary-compatible, let alone cross-compilable? Jasper (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Soccer ball pattern

in australia they call it soccer. football refers to aussie rules. therefore soccer ball is the right name (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Soccer ball pattern

(...) If we follow the standards set by James and use australian english, shouldn't we change the description ? I don't think the word "soccer" is used there. Leonardo (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Java LDraw/LDLite

(...) Isn't there something you can do to have just *one* perl interpreter running, that does all the CGIing, instead of starting up all these processes? Jasper "can't imagine at what PID that server is by now" Janssen (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.cad)

  Re: Quality of authored parts

(...) <snip> (...) Rightly or wrongly, I am definitely an "as good as we can possibly make them" person. I'm sorry if this offends others. Chris (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Quality of authored parts

(...) I second that. John has pretty succinctly summed up what is needed. -- Terry K -- (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Part Numbering Crisis in LDraw

(...) The problem with that solution is that we would then have the 4106548 hard coded as yellow. And when the tan version is released are we then going to have another 410xxxx for it - hard coded to tan? That may not seem like a big deal, until you (...)   Re: Java LDraw/LDLite

That would probably cut out the servlet possibility, then. There isn't a very good implementation of java for FreeBSD (no JIT), and I'm not sure about a Java Servlet implementation, either. (...) (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Java LDraw/LDLite

(...) No, it runs FreeBSD. (Not that there's anything wrong with Linux.) --Todd (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)
