Re: Cockpits, and Facets, and Ninja, oh my!

(...) I have posted a slightly improved version of 6058.dat to the Parts Tracker at (URL) does not solve all the problems with this part, but includes - correct height alignment of studs at z=70 and the adjoining fillets - realignment of bad quad on (...)   Re: Cockpits, and Facets, and Ninja, oh my!

(...) Aack! This would've been a nice part to (URL) 3D Scan>. But short of FedExing the part to me at my hotel (as I don't have one on hand) that's probably not gonna happen.. I could try to have one of my students take a stab at it in 3DStudio or (...) (20 years ago, 25-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.mlcad, lugnet.cad.dat.ideas, lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

Re: Cockpits, and Facets, and Ninja, oh my!

(...) Hmm, I guess nobody cares about it but me. :) I recently found out that it was officially discontinued as a LEGO brick (as compared to just not having been used for a while), which was a bit disappointing, since at the time I needed eight (...)   Re: Cockpits, and Facets, and Ninja, oh my!

(...) For some unknown reason, part 2463 is pretty much an empty shell with no bottom at all. It has edge lines on the bottom out in empty space, but no surfaces. It appears that this file hasn't been touched since 1999. It's not currently on the (...) (20 years ago, 25-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

Cockpits, and Facets, and Ninja, oh my!

I downloaded copies of LDraw and MLcad a few days ago, and I've been building digital versions of a few of my models, but I ran into a couple of problems: 1. Using MLcad, I couldn't get (URL) this piece> to close flush to (URL) this piece>. There (...)   Boat parts (like in set #775-1)

Hi all, A while back I started to create these parts: x145c0? Boat Section Bow 5 x 6 x 3 & 1/3 x146c0? Boat Section Middle 6 x 8 x 3 & 1/3 x147c0? Boat Section Stern 6 x 6 x 3 & 1/3 I completed the middle section (which was relatively easy) but got (...) (20 years ago, 24-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: Problem with click hinge part(s)?

(...) Thanks. New versions of the other official click hinge bricks are now on the Parts Tracker (URL) (20 years ago, 18-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) Yuck! >:^( (...) Did you see this one? No light blue, bright white only on the right side overlap. (URL) (...) But look at the right edge of the rocket on this pic. You can clearly see the white is brighter where the light grey lines come in (...) (20 years ago, 14-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) (2 URLs) check this out. instead of 505 I just used a costum, dithered color with: 255 255 255 255 193 169 it is obvious to me that it's just a lack of LDraw colors ... (...) honey bunny, you are totally wrong on this side ;-) it's not at all (...) (20 years ago, 14-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

  Re: Non-colanar quads question

(...) Be careful with that. You could also replace it with triangles (ABD and DBC) using the other diagonal. I think one way will give you a nice convex exterior and the other way will create all sorts of nasty concavities. You can do some origami (...) (20 years ago, 13-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

  Non-colanar quads question

I'm fixing the Perl code that generates the curved surface of the Half [1] Onion Dome (part 44511) from its control data. At the moment the surface comprises counter-clockwise wound quads (ABCD) [3] and conditional lines (AB, BC, CD and DA). (...) (20 years ago, 13-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) I think you have made an assumption about the particular parts you are using as a model. The printing process LEGO uses/used for this is faulty, and the white strips you are referring to on the rocket and helmet appear to me to be simply an (...)   Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) The first, definitely. Also, looking at the second scanned image (sorry, I snipped it from this reply), the white 'seam' down the side of the astronaut's helmet appears to be strictly a printing defect - the white ink is positioned slightly (...)   Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) The surface of this brick is perfectly smooth, so the blue pattern I see is not caused by brick texture, but by the screen printing process. Nevertheless, looking at the two mock-ups, I think the white version is closer to what it "should" (...) (20 years ago, 12-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) Ok, which looks "right"? This: (URL) or this: (URL) C'mon. It's classic space, not Power Rangers (or Knights Kingdom). There are no light blue spacemen or spaceships in classic space. The moon is not made of bleu cheese. Look with the eyes of (...) (20 years ago, 12-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) hm ... this is in tune with steve (initially I used light blue 9): "Yes, I think it would work better to use color 503 (light gray from Mosaic) instead of light blue. If those zones are really a vary light shade of blue, you could try 505 (...) (20 years ago, 11-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) I agree with you - my mistake. I'll correct it. (...) hmm ... I'm not a print-wizard nor skilled in what's needed to make a dithered color of some kind. I do not believe that we should "interpret" what's supposed to see, but what we are (...) (20 years ago, 11-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) I have now located my copy of this part. The areas you mention defintely have a feint blue coloration. I believe this is deliberate, as I can make out the regular pattern of screening dots. This is most obvious on the larger areas, but I (...) (20 years ago, 11-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

Re: Color scheme in Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with Rocket Launch Pattern?

(...) I haven't found the part yet, but I've found the sister spacewalk brick and examined it. If you flip the brick over you can clearly see that it's not quite smooth. Compare it to a smooth brick and you'll see what I mean. This was probably done (...) (20 years ago, 10-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)
