I will strongly recommend to use primitives whenever possible.
Note that L3P v1.3 only supports the 1-4conN.dat primitives,
not the 4-4conN.dat. I'll add this to the next version...
So, until then use 4 1-4conN.dat primitives to see the effect in POV.
Type "l3p -pp" to see a list of currently supported primitives.
BTW, has the unfortunate 4-4con12.dat been deleted officially?
The 4-4con1.dat says:
0 19990819 SEB Renamed 4-4con12.dat to 4-4con1.dat
Should I delete my 4-4con12.dat?
Combining three or more cones to achieve the right cone may look good in POV
but doesn't it create unnecessarily many triangles in other renderers?
The same goes for combining multiple rings.
A solution could be something similar to the tori primitives:
cnIIIOOO.dat
where III is inner radius and OOO the outer, e.g. cn016019.dat
And rnIIIOOO.dat for rings.
For quarter cones and rings, well, can we sneak in a '4' somewhere?
It will result in more primitives, but renderers can benefit from fewer
(and larger) triangles.

I have some very old (1966) train wheels with four studs and with grooves
(matching the tracks), http://guide.lugnet.com/set/117
The locomotive version is conical and smooth and supposed to hold
an anti-slip tyre, http://guide.lugnet.com/set/112_2

| When I was working on the old Type I trainbase 6 x 12, I also wanted correct wheels for this part. Since I have these, I tried to create the wheel. In my first attempt I used primitives only, but the cones looked horrible when rendered. In my (...) (22 years ago, 15-Oct-02, to lugnet.cad)
