Sure, I organize things by directory. And with the new file viewers/modeling programs that's no problem, as they can still find everything OK (mostly). The only problem is with LDraw and LEdit, which are "dumb" and need the models to be in a (...) (24 years ago, 17-Aug-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: More newbie questions

(...) Yah, I keep a directory \ldraw\archive\models\ handy for stuff I snarf. It actually goes a couple levels deeper: \ldraw\archive\model...)\(model)\ . Lately, though, I've been thinking of just MPD'ing everything to cut down on that last (...) (24 years ago, 17-Aug-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: More newbie questions

(...) I think Not, MPD won't act as a virtual direcotry, since you can only use it to represent the model contained within it, not several, unless they all are part of a larger model, (same tree root) i.e. the first file included in the MPD. See ya (...) (24 years ago, 18-Aug-00, to lugnet.cad)

(...) ^^^^^^^^ (...) Which is exactly what I'm using it for. :-, Uhh hummm, I guess "virtual directory" isn't the best term, as it implies a lot more functionality than what is possible. How about "model container"? :-, Cheers, - jsproat (24 years ago, 18-Aug-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: More newbie questions

(...) That's not exactly true. The original MPD spec did not require that all archived files be part of a single model. With the addition of path information on the 0 FILE statement, it is possible to throw a bunch of different files into an MPD. (...) (24 years ago, 21-Aug-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: More newbie questions

(...) Yes, but how do you do to draw only one of those models of the bunch in the MPD ? I think you can't unless, you edit the first file (index) of the MPD. With this in mind, an MPD does NOT work as a virtual directory, but it can act as a place (...) (24 years ago, 22-Aug-00, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: More newbie questions

(...) That's not my point - I was just saying you can put whatever (text) files you want into an MPD. That's very similar to a file directory, because there is not implied relation between the files in a directory (except that they're all in the (...) (24 years ago, 22-Aug-00, to lugnet.cad)
