As I have almost no experience with LeoCAD, I'm hardly in a position to
recommend it (or not). As I understand it, though, LeoCAD uses it's own
pieces, not the LDRAW .dat files directly, which will make an impact on the
hard disk, and perhaps give problems when converting back to .dat?
LDRAW and MLCAD I use (now and then).

| (...) The files are converted from the LDraw format because of speed issues (LeoCAD is several times faster than any other LDraw program) and James asked me not to redistribute the original files in .dat format. You do have to spend some extra space (...) (24 years ago, 28-Jun-00, to lugnet.cad)
