It has always been my impression that "long" things face the X direction in LDraw. Take a look at the Car Bases, for example, a majority of them span the X axis. (...) Some bases are correctly lined up, some aren't. I agree with Steve here, it sohould be rotated. Has this part been officialed yet? I still don't have it in my Parts directory, and was just about to model it when I made a search and found it (...) (22 years ago, 21-Mar-02, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

(...) How about the 'Plane' category? The existing categories for vehicle-related pieces are Boat, Car, Plane and Train. Out of those, Plane seems like the best bet to me. Although the skids wouldn't actually work on a plane (at least not more than (...) (24 years ago, 5-Jun-00, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dat.parts)
