But I think the right thing to do is adapt lsynth to do what you
want.  The source is available and enhancements like these have been
discussed before, and aren't all that hard to make.  If you look here
you can see my attempt to adapt lsynth to handle the fixed length
50 segment rubber hoses.

It was mostly cut and paste.  What you're asking for sounds similar.
Perhaps it's time to review the old discussions and revive this topic?
I suppose it depends a bit on how far along Kevin is with the LPUB
beta development.

I agree with Don. I think Kevin has stated publicly in these very threads he is
very open to integrating enhancements from others as long as it is easy to do
and doesn't break things or make loads more work for him.

He might not necessarily have time to go into a lot of deep discussion right now
what with the holidays and all though.

Hi All,
  Happy holidays.

I made LSynth's source code open from the beginning, in case someone better at
math than I might take a swing at it.  It has never really made it past the
proof of concept stage.  Feel free to make additions....

I just walked my son through setting up a computer from scratch, and
installing Windows98.  I've got to get some Windows98 stuff debugged for LPub.

There are two changes I have planned for LPub short term (ha! a relative
term):

    1.  Reduces file sizes for most hoses, cables and rubber band.  (the idea is
to scale the size of hose cross segment limited by angular resolution.)

    2.  Make *all* of the hose/cable synthesis attributes (hose end, and cross
section pieces) configured by a text file that is read at run time.

Kevin

(...) Hey I know a spiffy little recursive algorithm that'd probably do a nice job of that. I used to use it in 2D to reduce the size of vectorized scanned image files, but it should extend nicely to 3D. You start with the end points of a curve. (...)
