Re: Announcing the book "Lego Software Powertools"

(...) The book is indeed designed with a view to bring in new people into the hobby. We listed a sample of key sites. Some are dead obvious (Lugnet, Ldraw.org & Brickshelf), but deciding which others to include was a painful process. Both Kevin and (...)   Re: question/problem with some flag parts

Hmm... The flag 6 x 4 (#43) is actually 6 x 3 1/3. Flag 6 x 4 (#43P01) is 6 x 4. Strange. I do not own any of these two parts, but I think part 43 is either mesured wrong or the description is wrong. Or part 43P01 is wrong... Jaco "Jonathan Wilson" (...) (22 years ago, 12-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  question/problem with some flag parts

Can someone explain why the "flag 6 x 4" and the "flat 6 x 4 with jolly roger pattern" are different sizes? Is this an error? (22 years ago, 12-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Announcing the book "Lego Software Powertools"

This is very cool, I see from the TOC that there are lots of plugs for our favorite LEGO web pages as well...nice. Was there any issue with putting all of the different freeware on a disk?   Re: Why should parts not have vertices lying along edges?

(...) I wouldn't ignore it lightly as it can have many adverse effects. You get little holes from from the roundoff errors. You can also see it in lighting problems with more advanced renderers such as ldview and POV. Here's an old example of the (...) (22 years ago, 12-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Why should parts not have vertices lying along edges?

(...) My opinion is that this isn't a significant enough problem to worry about. Further more, I consider this is a renderer limitation and not a problem with the part itself. Therefore, feel free to ignore this if it suits your purposes. -Orion (22 years ago, 12-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Rendering over lan?

There is another way, but it's not for the feint of heart. It's distributed raytracing. People have hacked pov and made it run across multiple machines. I'm not sure if it's actually been done on Windows OSs yet, bet it has worked for other people (...) (22 years ago, 12-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  Re: Panning in L3Lab ?

(...) Sorry, no, the center of the model is always located at two thirds of the height. I can't really remember why, perhaps because LDraw does so per default? When I'm done with L3P I'll give L3Lab an overhaul, and one of the many requests has been (...) (22 years ago, 11-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Rendering over lan?

(...) That is entirely dependent on the rendering engine. PovRay is single threaded, so the only way to do it is to run multiple copies. This has other problems, but there's a bit of a discussion about how to do it here (URL) (22 years ago, 11-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Why should parts not have vertices lying along edges?

For this discussion, I'm using the term "polygon" to refer to quads or triangles. When I say "primitive", I'm talking about more complex primitives such as discs and non-discs. And when I refer to "edges", I'm talking about line segments between a (...) (22 years ago, 11-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Rendering over lan?

I have a lan connection of my desktop PC and my laptop I have win XP on PC and WIN 2K on laptop. Is it possible to use both computers same time over lan so I can render faster? If how? (22 years ago, 11-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray)
