  motorized tank questions

Hello, I have been interested in incorporating Technic features (especially motors), in minifig scaled MOCs, and am finally on my first major project. I am trying to build a minifig scale motorized tank and was wondering if anyone could help with (...) (18 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military, lugnet.technic)

  Re: motorized tank questions

(...) One VERY simple thing you can try is to attach 1x4 plates to the treads. I've seen people use every other, or every third or forth. They should clip right on, using the holes in the tread for the pins under the 1x4. Steve (18 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military)

  Re: motorized tank questions

(...) I think I've fully explored tracked chassis building and it's a dead end. The tracks always snap. And when adding plates to the track they always come off. You just need an a nice angle at the front to climb things. Rubber tracks would be good (...) (18 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military)

  Re: motorized tank questions

(...) While this is not my primary area of building, I have noticed that the rubber tracks that came with the Cybermaster kits are relatively long and have sufficient grip to at least clear some obstacles. The downside of this is, that the rubber (...) (18 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military)

  Re: motorized tank questions

(...) Magnus, Which kind of problems? Does it stall and the motors stop turning, or can it just not find purchase on the surface? What are you using for the treads? Danny (18 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military)

  Re: motorized tank questions

(...) I own a set of these, and would happily say they are a bit oversize for this chaps requirement. I have tried to use them in robot builds myself, and have generally gone back to using six wheels after having traction problems, and watching (...)   Re: motorized tank questions

(...) Danny, in theory you are right, however this solution won't help much in rough terrain, as the idea of incorporating track with the vehicle is to be able to move forward when there is no such thing as a flat surface. What this calls for is the (...) (18 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military)

  Re: motorized tank questions

Hi, Thanks for everyone for advice ad suggestions. (...) Usually the treads just don't find purchase, but I was up til 2am last night experimenting, and think I have figured out that by adding weight to the front of the chassis and suspension on the (...) Hi, Thanks to everyone for advice and suggestions. (...) Usually the problem is that the treads don't find purchase as much as I'd like, but I was up til 2am last night experimenting, and think I have figured out that by adding weight to the front (...)   Re: motorized tank questions

(...) This approach will work well with tank treads. It wouldn't work well with normal wheels, because you'd have one wheel in front, and the other in back. If appearance is really important, you may notice a difference in how the treads look, given (...) (18 years ago, 6-Jul-06, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: motorized tank questions

Steve, Thanks for all the help. (...) I haven't figured out how to motorize the turret yet, if that will need an 8 wide space in the hull, then I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the fore-an-aft-motor-hu...-narrowing setup anyway, so I'll have (...) (18 years ago, 6-Jul-06, to lugnet.technic)
