Hello,
I have been interested in incorporating Technic features (especially motors), in
minifig scaled MOCs, and am finally on my first major project. I am trying to
build a minifig scale motorized tank and was wondering if anyone could help with
suggestions for improving my design, as I know others have tried their hand at
this kind of thing in the past. No pix yet, but I think my main problem so far
explains itself.
I have come up with a functional chassis, using two technic minimotors in the
rear. It moves along at a nice steady pace as long as it is on flat surface, but
tanks of course are supposed to be able to go almost anywhere. One problem I
have found is that the vehicle has a hard time traversing even the smallest
obstacles/rough terrain. Would it help to have one motor in front and one in the
back to even out the weight distribution? How about creating a basic suspension
system for the roadwheels? Has anyone made any modification to the wide chain
link treads to make them grip any better? I know the rubber tracks would work
better, but they aren't long enough to give me the look I am looking for.
Any other general suggestions or comments from experienced Technic or tank
builders would be welcome.

| (...) One VERY simple thing you can try is to attach 1x4 plates to the treads. I've seen people use every other, or every third or forth. They should clip right on, using the holes in the tread for the pins under the 1x4. Steve (18 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military)

| (...) I think I've fully explored tracked chassis building and it's a dead end. The tracks always snap. And when adding plates to the track they always come off.
