Bulls***. Read up on the First World War and come back with an informed
opinion. That war saw levels of brutality and raw horror currently unmatched
in any modern
conflict. And both LEGO planes mount machine guns.

Why should we "follow their lead"? They never listen to US, and buying
someone's toy's doesn't obligate you to them. LEGO isn't "getting close",
they ARE producing military
models. If you want to talk about sheltering children, worry about
sheltering them from this kind of blatant hypocrisy. The violence issue has
been present ever since the Castle
theme debuted, and it will never be properly resolved. Are you saying that
swords and axes (some rather gruesomely curved) are somehow "better" or more
acceptable than
laser cannon or machine guns? They aren't, and pretending otherwise offends
me more than any LEGO panzer. I have seen tank builders display incredible
skill and precision
use of LEGO rarely found anywhere else. I refuse to condemn Shaun Sullivan,
Dan Siskind and Carl Greatrix for building what they like, and building it
well. If you want to
crusade against violence, protest real wars and real suffering, rather than
dumping on someone's harmless hobby. Those don't just go away because you
want to pretend they
don't exist.
I'm done now, sorry for the rant. I just thought it needed to be said. Feel
free to email me if you disagree.
Take care,
Soren

| The intention of my original email was to answer Henry Henkleman's comments that TLC should produce military based sets. He seemed to miss the point that many parents do not like buying war related toys for their young children. I think Star Wars (...) (22 years ago, 12-Jan-03, to lugnet.build.military)

| I for one support LEGO's policy of not producing modern military themes sets. In fact it kind of makes me uncomfortable seeing WW2 tanks and the like built from Lego. There are not many havens for children from war and conflict in the world of toys, (...) (22 years ago, 11-Jan-03, to lugnet.build.military)
