Hello all,
Well I was just doing a quick read of online news. I had not been to
www.allspark.com, a Transformers fan site, recently so I brought up the
page. After scrolling down I stumbled across this header: Wave 5 Product
Catalog Scans - May 22 2003, 10:48 AM containing the text:
"In it, you'll find pictures of the Built To Rule Lego Transformers,"
Okay...Wait a sec...WHAT?!?
Well, it seems these are official:
http://www.tformers.com/article.php?sid=1346
PAGES 2, 3, and 4 of that article.
NOW, this makes me think. The toys are identifiably Transformers but they
would not have been made for mass production if the makers did not intend
for them to be joined in the manner of the system originated by the LEGO
Company. So, this means that the makers at Hasbro believe and/or have
researched enough to ensure that there is a market for such a line of
Transformers.
That being the case, I am wondering WHY was a joint venture not looked into
by Hasbro and the LEGO Group? It is evident that LEGO sculptures of
official Transformers have been made with strong likenesses
(http://news.lugnet.com/build/mecha/?n=7770) and that compact, unified (in
that no parts need removed), transformable LEGO vehicles have been designed
(http://news.lugnet.com/build/mecha/?n=8215). So why would a combination of
these two styles not be feasible?
And if there was a discussion about a venture of this sort, may we know why
it fell through? Furthermore, (whether it fell through or not) is there a
likelihood that a line of Transformer LEGO sets might come to fruition? (I
realize this is one of those questions regarding product line that Jake
McKee can not answer but I would appreciate any insight into the issue.)
Also, was the LEGO Group contacted about the release of such sets?
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Andrew Saada

(PS, the only thread I found about this is:
http://www.2005boards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15463
Within this thread, the only forum thread pertaining to this news that I
have found on www.2005boards.com and www.allspark.com, the member
Thunderfire writes: "The BTR sets look like some horrible Duplo
rejects...ugh...."
I think they look better than that but I believe that LEGO sets of
Transformers nature could be very appealing.)
