Hey Guys, I first got inspired to build Robots when I was about 10 years
old, I made my first robot called the Ambu Quad:

At the age of 18 I decided to take building with Lego serious. I thought
that Lego had all the parts and pieces I needed and that it was a way to
create anything I wanted to make. I built my first real Mech:

I built the Black Robot after getting inspiration from H.R.Gieger's
Necronomicon; the Alien. I worked on it for two years and spent $2000 on it.
Now that I look back I realize it took so long because that's when I was a
Supervisor in United Parcel Service working the night shift.

Later, I got alot of ideas from seeing all the cool FASA Battle Tech Mechs.
I also kept an eye on Japanese animation and got interested in Harmony
Gold's Robotech in particular. I liked the Bioroids from the Robotechmasters
and combined with the Battlemaster from Battle Tech I set out to build the
Red Robot.

It was at this point when I decided that building Robots was really what I
wanted to do.

Nowadays I gain inspiration from many things. Nature, Sci-Fi and my own
imagination. I also gain inspiration form seeing how other Lego Builders use
peices. I look around and I constantly see clever ways to use parts and ways
to make new and interesting connections or designs.

I find inspiration from the things that my Mechs "aren't" as well.
Constantly looking to improve my technique and go for designs qualities and
attributes that I have not yet incorporated into my building.

For example, after seeing Brian Cooper's MS 03 and Bryce McGlone's Agiel
Mecha in person, I want my next designs to be more graceful, more fluid.

Some of my fav Mecha builders are, but not limited too....

Bryce McGlone
Brian Cooper
Mladen Pejic
Chris Snead
Stuart Immonnen
John Carol
David Thomas
Mark Neumann

And Jeff Ranjo too!

Geordan Hankinson is another builder that I look foward to seeing work from.
And my old pal Mark Sandlin.

In fact I like all of the Mecha in the LMHoF.
These builders really inspire me and I always enjoy seeing what they come up
with. I really like the Japanese Mecha Builders as well.

Well, I probably missed some peoples names, I'm sorry if I did. I enjoy
seeing the creations everyone makes, that's part of the reason I hang around
here!

What inspires me the most is the Lego itself.

Thanks, cool poll.

Calling all Mech heads out there!

I just would like take a little poll here if you don't mind.

I've seen alot of cool stuff out there that you've all built but I'm just
curious as to what was the first mech/mecha that really got you "hooked".
And what inspires you today?

Just curious,
Jeff
