Calling all Mech heads out there!

I just would like take a little poll here if you don't mind.

I've seen alot of cool stuff out there that you've all built but I'm just
curious as to what was the first mech/mecha that really got you "hooked".
And what inspires you today?

Just curious,
Jeff

Well Jeff, I have a bit of a story to tell...

When I first started going online regularly (when we got our computer), I
was just starting to get back into the brick.  And I searched for a "LEGO
Gundam," because I was hooked on Gundam Wing at the time too.  Anyways, I
netted this:

http://www.robotcity.com/lp/Models/gundamIndex.html

The first lego mecha (other than my own piddly attempts when I was a kid)
that I ever saw.  Back then I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.
Now, I still say it's amazing, but since I've been exposed to many other
building styles (namely Eric's, K's, Chris S.'s, Bryce's, and Jeff's), I
would say that this gundam is extremely purist (per the title) in nature.
Lots of studs going the same way.

I was very inspired by that model, too.  I remember surfing the "Cool Lego Site
of the Week" and seeing the purist model.  I had no idea what a gundam was at
that time, but I thought the design was very clean.  I was amazed by the fact
that someone made a "robot" out of Lego that stood on it's own; I started
experimenting with  new joint technologies based on what I saw.  I came up with
several, which was enough to get me building my first mecha.  I later became
disappointed to discover that that model doesn't stand on its own (notice the
support in the back in every picture).  Fortunately, by that time, Bryce and
Brian Cooper had stepped up to the plate with some excellent Gundam models.

Even though many people have built outstanding gundams, I feel like it is still
an important thing for me to do; a gundam model drew me to building Lego mecha,
and "Gundam Wing" solidified my interest in mecha.  Building a gundam would be
like coming full circle for me...

Later, Chris
