Sounds like something from Starship Troopers, if you've seen that movie ;-)

The US military has "man packs," so called because they can be carried in a
backpack. They are of approximate strength that they can destroy a decent

I heard a rumor that they've lost around 13 of them... they don't know where
they are!

Scary, huh? • Yup

Also, I think a mecha equipped with tac-nukes would also have the
appropriate shielding for optics and electronics.

(...) They're in the book, too. Some of the MI had Y-racks on their backs from which they could lob several tac-nukes to either side. Heinlein doesn't specifically mention yield, but it's inferred that the lethal radius of the blast is well below (...) (24 years ago, 31-Aug-00, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.off-topic.geek)
