Actually, sometimes the whole turret, including the 2x2 round brick, slips
off the axle peg. So, I dont know if the 4x4 round brick would work any
better. But its a good suggestion nonetheless, and I regret not trying it
out.
The real problem is the actual nature of the bricks with axle holes. Their
connections to such a short axle is always weak.

why not use the 3l axle with stud (with the stud part) sandwiched between two
1x2 technic bricks. very stiff and gives you a 2l worth of axle to attach to.
