how long DOES it take us to build things?
in real actual hours worked?

when we post MOC's, how about posting some
basic stats, like buildtime, for example?

thx much

I have a very difficult time answering the "How long..." question. Should
the answer include the hours of experimentation, thinking and planning
before and during the build? Is the person asking going to understand "40
hours", "80 hours", "500 hours" as compared to "two weeks", "two months",
"two years"?

Sometimes, I just don't have a clue about how many hours I've spent on some
models. Others came so quickly, or efficiently, that the number of hours
wouldn't be believed because they were so few. And then there's the ones
that took 'forever' but look like they should have only taken a few hours.

Although I think you are asking a very good question, I'm not sure the
answers will be all that meaningful.

Just my 2-studs worth.

I'm gonna jump on your bandwagon here. A recent example is my first entry to
the Ancient Building Theme contest this time. I've thought about this
project for about 3 years, (actually probably before the first contest,
though I couldn't have produced this thing for that first contest). I'm
realizing it now. It's never been far from my thoughts on projects to do,
but I haven't really spent any time until just a week or so now on it.

Some portions of the portions of this project have always been in "the plan"
and other more interesting features have just come to me while I have been
building. Though not massive amounts of rebuilding have occured, (yet),
there have been small areas reworks during the construction. I'm not done
yet either.

So, my point is, do I count all the time (3 years) that I've been thinking
about this project. Do I count only the actual building time with bricks in
hand. Do I count only the time that the finished contruct took.
