Hey, Sam, welcome to the world of half-crazy Lego builders. We're all
half-crazy; it comes with the territory: that of spending long hours staring
at legos until finally, around 2 AM, a brilliant idea comes to you. ;-)

Hear, Hear. Every week I spend a good hour or two picking all of the loose
Legos up off the floor, and sorting them all back into their colors; it's
amazing how quickly the little odds and ends of stuff you find useful and
can't bear to stick back in the box crops up all over the place. ;-)
My first piece of advice to you would be to sort your Legos. No need to get
really fancy or complicated, but sorting by color, with a few additional
categories such as people, trees, technic, and others is really helpful if
you going to build anything, especially nifty little models of this or that.
Mostly, it's important just to sort by color. But really, you'd find this
most helpful for building.
Secondly, think small, but most of all, think fun. Do what strikes your
fancy. If you think it'd be fun to build, do it. Don't worry just yet about
being incredibly original or displaying unparalleled genius by creating this
massive structure. Build cool, but mostly just build fun.
You guys have mentioned a bunch of cool models that you have done, but you
haven't provided poor Sam here with any links to them. ;-)

I don't have a Lego site up yet, but here's links to two pictures of a
shopping mall I built about 4 years back.
