Frank and Shiri, make a lot of good point. Definitely start small, check out
what others are build and most of all have FUN!

Personally, I got back into LEGO because of Res-Q Theme, and a lot of my first
creations were all closely related to Res-Q, than of course I saw the *amazing*
mecha and spaceships Ben Vaghaun, Jeremy Sproat, Karim Nassar, Pat Justison,
Bram Lambrecht, etc. and started getting interested in that. So look through
websites and see what you would like to build. Have fun!

Mladen Pejic, over and out!

Hi all,
I have been playing with LEGO for about four or five years, and have
inherited my two older brothers collections over time, anyway, I don't have • a
collection nearly as large as most of you.

Ahhh.... not all of us have as big collections as it might be portrayed. Some
people have massive collections, true, but many people (including lurkers,
newbies AND oldtimers) are on limited budgets and/or just don't have much • lego.

I know my collection is nowhere near as large as some people's here; but I
still build, create and post. (Heh - I post more than many people combined, I
think ;-)

And some of us with huge collections never get around to building much because
we're always at the store or sorting pieces....

I think a key thing is to decide on a theme of interest, and work for a while
in that theme, buying sets to engance what you can do in that theme, and
actually sitting down and building instead of like me who is into almost
everything, and is (was) buying up sets faster than you could say boo.

Any building tips, hints, or anything that could help at all
would be so great.  Thank you all.

Start small. Don't try to build something huge or extremely complicated at
first; just try a little creation or two.
I'm not sure what theme you like, but I know that my first creations after a
long builder's block were minifigs. I tried a castle after that; that didn't
get far, and was scraped after a few days. OTOH, the inn I tried a while • later
started small (just a small part of a 32x32 baseplate - barely takes up 1/2 • of
it) and evolved as I went along (feedback I got while building helped a • lot!).
It turned out the MOC I'm still most proud of. (Certainly more than previous
MOCs, that were bigger, but in no way complete or well-designed).

Very good points (and Shiri's inn is one of the recent creations that I find
among the top creations - part of this is because in addition to just building
a building, she has built a background). Starting small also makes it more
likely you won't run out of pieces (Shiri - isn't that part of what stalled
the castle project, when you realized the shear quantity of bricks and castle
wall sections necessary to build a decent castle?).

To me, my best creation so far is my Blacktron Challenger, inspired by the
Blacktron Invader and a bunch of extra Blacktron parts. It also started as a
small project. The initial project was to change the cargo module from opening
at the end, to opening along the sides. Once I got that down, I proceeded to
make a larger ship to go with the modules I was going to build.

Another way to start is to pick a set you like, and try and improve it. My Red
Seas Barracuda is along these lines. I started with the concept of using red
and dark grey instead of the black and yellow of the Black Seas Barracuda. I
also had in mind making the necessary modifications to make the ship work
better with Steve Jackson's Pirate Game. I am quite pleased with the final
ship, though it is 95% the same as a BSB (other than color).
