I just wanted to send out an update on the subject to let all of those who
have responded know how things are progressing.
I have been able to design a retractable system similar to the Technic Space
Shuttle which fits within a 6 wide X 16 long area 3 bricks deep. It is still
larger than I would like and is manually actuated, but I feel like I am
finally getting close.
I have decided that the size is acceptable and that I will now modify the
ship to meet the landing gear rather than the other way around. I will try
to model the prototype in LDraw this weekend so that I can get more input
from the community. I am also trying to incorporate pneumatics for the
"Ooo-Aaah" factor, but haven't had any luck yet. Hopefully this weekend will
yield something cool.
Thanks for all of the help.
