I know, I know, it includes MEGABLOKS, but the designer points out that this
was due to the $$ limitations of using only LEGO, which did not offer bulk
sales in 1997, whereas RITVIK was willing to support large bulk purchases.
Unfortunately, this policy seemed to have been terminated when I contacted
RITVIK about it back in '99.

Well, if y'all are going to be quoting past massive LEGO bridges, I should step
in and set the record straight :-) Actually, I have a little list and I know
it's not complete, but here are some of the longest bridges done to date:

The big bridge at Legoworld 2002
http://news.lugnet.com/trains/?n=18173
Length: 8.9 m (29.2 ft)

Wayne R. Hussey's Znap Bridge
http://news.lugnet.com/trains/?n=6992
Length: 6.86 m (22.5 ft) (Span: 16.8 ft)

Ben Efde and Marco's Bridge
http://news.lugnet.com/trains/?n=14081
Length: 5.15 m (16.9 ft)

Study 9: Adrian Egli
http://news.lugnet.com/build/?n=14032
Length: 4.57 m (15 ft)

Ross Crawford's Sydney Harbour Bridge
http://www.lugnet.com/~469/projects/coathanger
Length: about 4.2 m (13.8 ft) (Span: 3.8 m)

Reinhard "Ben" Beneke's Arched Bridge
http://www.fgltc.org/bwoabs/bridges/bridges.phtml
Length: 4.1 m (13.5 ft)

Study 10: Adrian Egli
http://news.lugnet.com/build/?n=13042
Length: 3.81 m (12.5 ft)

These are ranked in order by total length. However, true bridge comparisons will
consider only maximum span length, or unsupported distance covered by the
bridge. Therefore some of these bridges should rank higher than they are, I just
don't know the span lengths for all of them. Perhaps someone can help fill in
the information.

best,
TJ Avery

(...) Seems the longest is also in a single span, so there's no doubt about the winner ((URL) wouldn't have thought that you can do this with LEGO. Jürgen (21 years ago, 9-Oct-03, to lugnet.build)
