Alright, I'll put in my 2 cents worth (incessant ramblings...) about minifig
accessories (since I do loathe minifigs so - no wait, their heads do make such
great gothic pinnacles for cathdral towers....).
Anyway, those really old 1x1 round bricks (from the 60's) that have no tapered
bottom. They're useless stacked together (they don't bind to each other), but
prbably would make great soda cans (in Michigan vernacular we say "pop can").
It is interesting to note that the 1x1 round bricks have undergone this
metamorphosis from the early (Type 1) round bricks without the tapered bottom (with
no hole in top) that were produced as early as 1957, to the tapered bottom (Type 2)
round bricks (with no hole in top) that were produced circa 1970-1980's. Then
sometime in the 1980's (?) TLG started producing the tapered bottom (Type 3) round
bricks (with a hole in top) that we have today.
Back in the 80's I bought some of those Homemaker sets (Bathroom, Bedroom, Family
Room, Kitchen) mostly for the large quantity of tiles. Some of these sets came
with minifig mugs with handles in clear, as well as clear 1x1 fat (minifig head
size) round bricks. They stacked on on top of the other, and voila ... a coffee
pot.
Which sends me off on another tangent .... did those ornate lamp posts (that came
in some 1990 sets) all come with a yellow-clear 1x1 fat round bricks? I have some
assembled with the regular clear fat rounds (maybe from the Homemaker sets?), but
I'm not sure they came that way. My nieces and nephews may have been responsible
for a switch.
Just wondering,
Gary Istok
