This is Where I Build

My building area is made from:
A table which I built to fit a specific area in a room. (Approx
30" by 24")  It turned out to be easier to just build the table to fit the
space, rather than hunt about for a new or used table.  The design is
basically an oversized TV table, with anti-sway bars reinforcing the crossed
legs.  While it's not quake-proof, I'm happy with how solid it turned out to be.

The total square footage of my building area is:
Roughly four square feet.  The table is actually slightly larger,
but some of the space at the back is given over to the shelves.  It's
certainly not a monsterous table, but I was extremely limited by the space
in which the table was going to go.

Total number of bricks at arms length:
          Perhaps 2000 - 2500.  Mostly 1 x X bricks, sorted by color and
easily accesible from the open front storage bins.  This, of course, is not
my main storage method.  These are really just common bricks that I wanted
handy.  All of my Technic, smaller misc. pieces and most of my plates are in
Plano tackle boxes.  Most of my remaining 1 x X and 2 x X bricks are in
various LEGO tubs or buckets.  Eventually, I want to house some larger
sorting bins on a nearby bookshelf.  I will fill these with color-sorted 2 x
X bricks.  That will probably add another 1000 - 1500 bricks to the 'arms
length' count.

Neatest thing about my building area:
The 24 storage bins, for sure.  Not only do they allow for easy
access while building, they are handy for disassembling/sorting.  You can
just sort of chuck a piece at the right bin and it will likely land where
it's supposed to be.  Oddly, they were more expensive than all of the other
materials that make up both the table and the shelves.

Worst thing about my building area:
It's much too small.  I look at this as a temporary solution until
I can get a house and therefore a basement and therefore a full LEGO room.
Ah, LEGO dreams.   :)

Extra Notes:
I also rounded up a couple of small lamps to light my building
table.  I outfitted them with GE Reveal lightbulbs.  These are supposed to
suppress the yellow color commonly emitted from incandescant bulbs.  I saw
this as having two benefits.  First, it would possibly be easier on my eyes
while sitting and building at the table.  Second, it would allow me to also
use my table to photograph my models so that I can post pictures to the web.
I've found that my digital camera is much happier with a more true light source.

All the best,
Allan B.

I did some searches and couldn't really find anything of this type having been previously done on LUGNET, so here goes: We've all seen the existing roll call forms. There are those for generic LEGO fans, for space fans, castle etc. Here's one with a (...) (22 years ago, 20-Nov-02, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general)
