When I was discussing the Alphabet Project with Jon Palmer a few months back,
this is what popped into my mind for an O-Wing.
Anyway, this took about 6-7 hours to build on Saturday.  The ring required a
few revisions in order to increase strength and stiffness, and the
spring-loaded mount for the cockpit also took a while to work out.  I think it
turned out pretty good though...close to what I imagined, and it works fairly
well too.
A couple wallpapers are available here:

This reminds me of a movie I have seen recently... ;) Now I know what to do with all the Star Wars hinges. Praise: excellent modell with great functionality. I vote for next MOC set by TLC (if you are willing to sell your copyrights). Criticisms: (...) (23 years ago, 27-May-02, to lugnet.space)

Bram, It took me ages to work out the small and simple ring in my Sol clipper....if the time from concept to completion was only 7 hours, I salute you....incredible stuff. It took me a minute to realize that the centre unit travelled the inner (...) (23 years ago, 27-May-02, to lugnet.space)

(...) That's really nice! The rotating cocpit is really intersting. I know I'm going to be designing an O-wing ship soon. Question: how does the pilot get out? Does the ship land on its ring? John Kruer (23 years ago, 27-May-02, to lugnet.space)

Bram, Beautiful! I love the mechanism enabling rotation! This reminds me of the 400-ton Lab Ship from the classic Traveller RPG. Franklin (23 years ago, 27-May-02, to lugnet.space)

I thought this was elegant and cool when I saw it. When I saw that the center rotated around on wheels and shocks I thought it was really cool. Then I noticed it even spun flat for landings. Really really cool. :-) Well done. -Jon -- | The Shipyard (...) (22 years ago, 30-May-02, to lugnet.space)
