Re: I found a new Technic wheel/tire combination...

(...) There are many ways to make independent front suspension without any specialized parts. I have put some rant on a web page with an idea: (URL) some of this is useful? Fredrik (26 years ago, 2-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

  I found a new Technic wheel/tire combination...

Take one new-fangled 'metallic' wheel hub (8428, 8432, 5203, etc.) and one 8880 Supercar rubber tire; combine. The result doesn't work perfectly (it certainly does not look as if this was intended by TLG, though it wouldn't have taken much), but (...) (26 years ago, 2-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: 1x1 and 2x2 chess sets

(...) BTW, you did see Lars reply to my question about L3P and the conic sections, right? So after the next update to L3P, you'll put the fix for the 1x1 cone into the following parts update, right? Steve (26 years ago, 2-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.build)

  Incorporating Throwbots Elements?

I picked up a Throwbots set over the weekend, and I was having a fairly good time exploring the different ways in which the ball-and-socket elements combine. Not an extensive array of combinations, to be sure, but they would seem to have their (...) (26 years ago, 2-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: Minifig tools are Technic fig scale

Actually I'm not sure since I didn't check but as I remember, some models by me on Leocad model gallery page are suitable for technifigs. Checkout agricultural aircraft, Siat 223, attack helicopter, and colonial viper. At least all of them except (...) (26 years ago, 1-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

POV camera positioning [was Re: 1x1 and 2x2 chess sets]

(...) Well, hopefully we will eventually get a least a simple implementation of a Camera.dat and Lookat.dat into LDraw. Until then, you could try using a couple of Light.dat files in your LDraw model. First, generate the .POV file from your dat (...) (26 years ago, 1-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.build)

Re: 1x1 and 2x2 chess sets

(...) <snip> Isn't it a shock to download such a tiny program and have it do what it does so easily? If only all software were that simple. :-) -- Terry K -- BTW, cool chess sets. It sure will be nice when there are POV-Ray primitives for the cone (...) (26 years ago, 1-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.build)

I'm not sure this will help, but I copy the L3P model into a scene file I have set up that has a background and camera effects like lens flares. Since the camera in the scene is (...)   Re: 1x1 and 2x2 chess sets

Very good, Todd. I'm glad you have found what POV can do for your models. It is a great way to show off what you've done. Roy (26 years ago, 1-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.build)

Re: 1x1 and 2x2 chess sets

Looks Great Todd!! and I like how you did those chess pieces! Yes I have to admit, L3P is a great prg! Lars did a good job on it! I like the fact that you don't have to have the piece in the .inc files to use pov with it, you can use all the parts (...) (26 years ago, 1-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.build)

  1x1 and 2x2 chess sets

All this talk lately about L3P and how easy it is to use finally convinced me to check it out... And WOW! I gotta say, Lars Hassing has created a truly amazing piece of work!   Re: Large Technic crane

(...) You are quite correct. The crane balances well without a load, using four large wheels and two motors as counterweights. But loaded, and with the load fully extended, the balance tips over. At full extension, it can probably not lift much at (...) (26 years ago, 28-Feb-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: Large Technic crane

(...) Not much at all. And especially not when the car which runs along the boom is fully extended. It can lift an orange when the car is in the middle of the boom, but I suppose that's approximately the maximum. Anyway, it wasn't designed to lift (...) (26 years ago, 28-Feb-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: Large Technic crane

Nice work Fredrik. I am curious about the base, can you pick up a load at full extension of the tractor. Looks like it would tip over. The mechanics really are neat. I like the diagrams. Wouldn't it be nice to have all the right color parts? -- Bob (...) (26 years ago, 28-Feb-99, to lugnet.build)

  Large Technic crane

It is probably common for Technic fans to make a large crane. Here's my version, in a rather bad colour sheme. I have taken a lot of inspiration from Leo Dorst. There's more descriptive text on the URL below. And even an image of myself taken by my (...) (26 years ago, 27-Feb-99, to lugnet.build)
